Saad Lamjarred and Cocaine

The arrest of Moroccan icon Saad Lamjarred was made in Paris due to his involvement in a rape case.

Seven years ago, Moroccan superstar Saad Lamjarred was arrested for sexual assault in Paris. I was the first journalist to openly say that he committed this act under the influence of cocaine. Moroccans called me every name in the book that you could think of and accused me of making up the claim, resulting in Lamjarred blocking me on social media. Members of his inner circle went on camera to criticize me and claim that what I reported wasn’t true.

Over the weekend and seven years later, a French court found Lamjarred guilty of aggravated rape, and he admitted to the judge that he had been under the influence of cocaine and alcohol. My social media DMs were flooded with messages from two kinds of people: the ones that realized that I had been doing my job and was right since day one and the ones that doubled down their support for Lamjarred, regardless of the fact that cocaine and alcohol are big no-no’s in Morocco, no matter what. While many Moroccans follow the famous saying, “support your brother whether he is right or wrong,” it’s not the case for me. I will support the truth, no matter what.

Meanwhile, Moroccan drama continues…
